Bug out
So... we are going along, minding our own business when a typhoon hit.
Well, okay, so it hasn't hit yet, but it really felt like this... We were doing our practice for Sports Day (We have to practice running, jumping and the like... I suspect they feel the kids will forget how to do sports if they don't practice...), anyway, we were practicing and it starts to rain...
...hard...
So the kids are summoned inside (They don't hurry... they are teenagers, after all), and then we have a meeting.
"Okay, the Board of Education called" says my vice principal to all of the assembled teachers, "The schools are closing tomorrow for the Typhoon." He goes through the modified weekend schedule (Sports day was supposed to be on Saturday... but now it'll be moved to Sunday, and we will get Monday and Tuesday off... I don't know... it's a Japanese thing...). And then the head of the Teachers stands up, "Oh, and everyone go home at 3 today. Let's clear the building."
It's 2:22...
In the next 30 minutes, all the homeroom teachers managed to get all 400 of my kids rallied and the rest of us got them on their bikes and bugged out. I don't think the US military could have done a better job.
I started my car and left at 3:01.
Anyway, I have never been in a typhoon before, I'll tell ya how it all goes... but I've stocked up on food and water and I have batteries in my flashlight and my Nintendo DS. I'm headed to the video store in a moment to get a mess of movies to watch and everything. I'm all set. :D
---bugged out and bunkered down.
